Playboy Gangster Crips (PBGC / 33rd Gangsters)

The Playboy Gangster Crips (PBGC) are documented as a predominantly African American, and one of Detroit’s older and more widely recognized Gangster Crip sets. Once considerably larger, the group’s numbers have declined due to internal losses, shifting neighborhood dynamics, and extensive federal scrutiny. Their long-running conflict with the 7 Mile Rollin’ 60s Crips (7M R$C) culminated in an ATF-led RICO investigation that removed much of the PBGC/TTG leadership and significantly weakened the organization.

Despite this, the set maintains an active presence in the Holcomb Community area, identifiable through graffiti, public tagging, and on-the-ground activity. The Playboy Gangster Crips maintain strong ties with the Brightmoor Gangster Disciples and have notable overlap with local IGD members, a relationship that has shaped alliances on the city’s Westside.

PBGC is not limited to the 7 Mile corridor. There are multiple Playboy Gangster Crip–aligned factions across Detroit, including the East Warren Crips and the Eastside Playboy Gangster Crips. These Eastside branches have long-standing histories in the East Warren and Fox Creek neighborhoods, though most documentation stems from community reporting and graffiti rather than federal cases.

Federal filings and local reporting place the origins of the Playboy Gangster Crips in the mid-to-late 2000s. Early members were involved heavily in carjackings and armed robberies before shifting toward more coordinated narcotics distribution to avoid police detection. Their prolonged war with the 7 Mile Rollin’ 60s drew substantial federal attention, resulting in two major RICO cases:

  • 2016–2018: Twelve R60s leaders convicted under RICO.
  • 2019: Sixteen PBGC/TTG members convicted in a parallel RICO prosecution.

Federal authorities described the 7 Mile Playboy Gangster Crips as a “violent criminal street organization” operating primarily along Seven Mile Road between Lahser and Evergreen. While federal action reduced the group’s size, PBGC remains one of the most established Gangster Crip presences on Detroit’s Westside and continues to hold influence within the broader Detroit Gangster Crips (3X / Movin’ Gang) network.
